Starting job at Arizona State gives Steven Threet best chance at success

Now that he enters the season owning one of the 120 starting quarterback jobs at Division I Football Bowl Subdivision schools around the nation, Threet has a golden opportunity to truly show his abilities on a big stage that being at a Pac-10 school provides. Threet will need to continue to display the consistency that won him the job to show he is the four-star recruit that was rated as one of the top 15 quarterbacks in the nation by Rivals.com and Scout.com coming out of high school. McGee more focused on title than records

McGee, who is battling sophomore Justin Hemm for the starting quarterback job in Adrian’s new multi-formation offense this fall, enters his senior season ranked among the school’s all-time leaders with 4,341 passing yards, 30 touchdowns and 311 completions.

Adrian College football program lands four local players

The quantity of Lenawee County players in his first recruiting class may be small, but first-year Adrian College football coach Jim Deere believes he made a splash with the local players the Bulldogs reeled in.

Derek West ready to help set tone for Siena Heights football

Nearly two months after first coming in contact with Siena Heights offensive coordinator Jeff Hancock, West became the school’s first-ever football recruit. The 5-foot-8, 175-pound wide receiver/kickoff returner officially joined the Saint football program when he signed a National Letter of Intent on Friday afternoon.

“It means a lot to me (to be the first recruit),” said West, who had originally committed to Urbana University — an NCAA Division II school in Ohio — before opting to stay closer to home. “I’m making history. I never thought I’d be in this position, but I’m happy I am.” Continue reading

Siena Heights breaks ground on new performance stadium

Siena Heights broke ground on the multimillion-dollar O’Laughlin Stadium on Tuesday afternoon. The outdoor performance stadium will be home to Siena’s football, lacrosse, soccer and track and field teams.

“It’s been a journey that has really taken us to the needs that Siena has had for a long, long time, and we are just delighted to be able to begin this journey of building with the students in mind and with future students in mind,” Siena Heights President Sister Peg Albert said. “They deserve a good place to play and to compete and to just have fun and learn a lot of things about life on the track and the field.
