Working hard and improving are main focuses for Tigers catcher Alex Avila
As the Tigers get set for spring training next month, Avila will be trying to earn a spot on Detroit’s 25-man Opening Day roster. Avila, who turns 23 on Friday, will likely compete with offseason acquisition Robinzon Diaz for a spot in the majors as the second catcher.

New addition Schlereth happy to be a Tiger
While Schlereth didn’t have a choice in his destination, he is more than satisfied with being acquired by the Tigers. The 23-year old hard-throwing pitcher has ties to Michigan with his fiancee having graduated from Grand Ledge High School and his future in-laws residing in Ionia.
